Day 11 — We Survived The Morning Rush
To every tired parent and caregiver: there's room for compassion tonight.
A kind word for tonight
The alarm went off, the shoes were gone, the backpack couldn't close. We hurried through the kitchen while somebody lost their clothes. By breakfast I was flustered and the day had barely begun. But we can make the morning plan much easier for everyone.
Before we stress, let's assess
Before we stress, let's assess. Rushing and transitions can be harder when attention or regulation is strained.
Step 1. Tonight’s reset
STOP: pause.
BREATHE: slow it down.
SAY WHAT THEY NEED: "First get dressed, then choose your breakfast."
Step 2. I DO → WE DO → YOU DO
I DO: model it.
WE DO: practice together.
YOU DO: try with support.
Step 3. One small action
Lay out two needed items tonight.
Tomorrow, we can practice again. Spot the clue. Know what to do. We made it through the day.
