Day 15 — Homework Ended In Tears
To every tired parent and caregiver: there's room for compassion tonight.
A kind word for tonight
The pencil hit the table; the answers would not come. An easy-looking worksheet made my child feel really dumb. I almost said, 'Just finish,' but then paused to see the strain. Smaller pieces and a break may help them try again.
Before we stress, let's assess
Before we stress, let's assess. A child may resist when the work feels too long, hard or confusing.
Step 1. Tonight’s reset
STOP: pause.
BREATHE: slow it down.
SAY WHAT THEY NEED: "Let's do one together, then take a break."
Step 2. I DO → WE DO → YOU DO
I DO: model it.
WE DO: practice together.
YOU DO: try with support.
Step 3. One small action
Try one example using I do, we do, you do.
Tomorrow, we can practice again. Spot the clue. Know what to do. We made it through the day.
