Day 3 — The Meltdown Took Everything
To every tired parent and caregiver: there's room for compassion tonight.
A kind word for tonight
The tears came fast, the volume rose, the evening lost its track. You tried to help, but every time the crying just came back. You wanted one calm minute, just a little room to breathe. A meltdown isn't proof that every tool you know should leave.
Before we stress, let's assess
Before we stress, let's assess. Look for what happened before the meltdown, not only what happened during it.
Step 1. Tonight’s reset
STOP: pause.
BREATHE: slow it down.
SAY WHAT THEY NEED: "You're safe. I'm here. We can take a break."
Step 2. I DO → WE DO → YOU DO
I DO: model it.
WE DO: practice together.
YOU DO: try with support.
Step 3. One small action
Write down one possible trigger after things settle.
Tomorrow, we can practice again. Spot the clue. Know what to do. We made it through the day.
