Day 6 — They Didn'T Listen The First Time
Before you call today a failure, I want you to hear this.
A kind word for tonight
I said it once, I said it twice, then said it once again. I watched the clock and wondered when this arguing would end. Maybe too many words at once were hard for them to hear. A shorter, clearer message might make tomorrow's path more clear.
Before we stress, let's assess
Before we stress, let's assess. Attention and processing needs can affect how a child follows directions.
Step 1. Tonight’s reset
STOP: pause.
BREATHE: slow it down.
SAY WHAT THEY NEED: "First shoes, then we go."
Step 2. I DO → WE DO → YOU DO
I DO: model it.
WE DO: practice together.
YOU DO: try with support.
Step 3. One small action
Give one direction and allow time for a response.
Tomorrow, we can practice again. Spot the clue. Know what to do. We made it through the day.
