Day 8 — Dinner Did Not Go To Plan
Worn out tonight? This one's for the caregiver who needs a little hope.
A kind word for tonight
I made a meal, I set the plates, I called us all to eat. One child turned away before they even took a seat. I felt the worry rising, and frustration followed too. But food can bring big feelings that need patience to work through.
Before we stress, let's assess
Before we stress, let's assess. Sensory preferences and stress can affect mealtime; pressure may not help.
Step 1. Tonight’s reset
STOP: pause.
BREATHE: slow it down.
SAY WHAT THEY NEED: "You can try what's comfortable. Let's talk about it."
Step 2. I DO → WE DO → YOU DO
I DO: model it.
WE DO: practice together.
YOU DO: try with support.
Step 3. One small action
Notice which tastes or textures feel difficult.
Tomorrow, we can practice again. Spot the clue. Know what to do. We made it through the day.
