What to Say After You Already Yelled
- Step 1 — Go to them. Get low. "Can I sit with you a minute?"
- Step 2 — Own your part only. "I yelled. That was mine, not yours."
- Step 3 — Keep the limit. "Bedtime is still bedtime. I just want to say it kinder."
- Step 4 — Give the next time a plan. "Next time I feel it coming, I'm going to say 'I need a minute.'"
Repair does not undo the yell. It teaches your child what to do after a mistake.
