Free — the whole script, nothing held back
The “Stop the yelling” script
Read it. Play it. Say it out loud tonight. Four steps, about one minute.
Captions appear here as the script plays.
Sharing helps another parent get through tonight — nothing about your child is shared.
Step 1 — Stop your body first
- The yell is right there in your throat. That is normal.
- Step back one foot. Put your hand on your chest.
- Breathe in for 4. Out for 6. Do it twice.
Step 2 — Whisper this to yourself
- “My child is not giving me a hard time.”
- “My child is having a hard time.”
- “I am the safe one in this room.”
Step 3 — Say the short words out loud
- Drop your voice one notch lower than you think you need.
- Slow the words down. Use the shortest sentence you can.
- “I hear you.” • “Let’s try again.”
Step 4 — If you already yelled, repair it
- Come back and say: “I got loud. That was mine, not yours.”
- “Let’s start over.”
- That repair is worth more than a perfect morning.
You did the hard part
You broke the loop just by slowing down. That counts. Do it again tomorrow.
