Turn 3 of 6 · Behavior GPS Sequence

🧭 Decode the Need

Sensory, escape, attention, or tangible.

This classroom is the practice. You learn the move and try it at home. The Behavior Struggle Map is the separate paperwork — the filled-in logs, letters, and plan for the school. We do not repeat it here.

You stop asking "why are they like this" and start knowing what they need.

What you walk away with

A one-line need statement for your child's hardest behavior.

Lesson 1 · 8 min

The 4 needs behind every behavior

FREE

Every behavior is asking for one of four things. Once you know which, the fix gets simple.

  1. Step 1: Ask — did they get OUT of something? That is escape.
  2. Step 2: Did they get YOU? That is connection or attention.
  3. Step 3: Did they get a thing? That is tangible.
  4. Step 4: Did their body settle or wake up? That is sensory.

I Do

I decode four real behaviors so you hear the thinking out loud.

We Do

We decode yours together in the classroom thread.

You Do

You write one need statement for your child.

This week: Finish this line: "When ___ happens, my child is asking for ___."

Lesson 2 · 6 min

Same behavior, different need

Members

Hitting at 7am and hitting at 7pm are usually two different needs.

  1. Step 1: Split your log by time of day.
  2. Step 2: Decode each time block on its own.
  3. Step 3: Write two need statements if the needs differ.
  4. Step 4: Match a different support to each one.

I Do

I show a morning need next to a bedtime need for the same child.

We Do

We split your log together on the live call.

You Do

You write a morning plan and a night plan.

This week: Pick your hardest time of day. Decode only that one.
