Day 17 — The Game Wouldn'T Turn Off
It's almost bedtime, and some of us are still carrying the whole day on our shoulders.
A kind word for tonight
I called, 'The game is finished,' and my child shouted, 'Wait!' I stood beside the screen, upset that it had gotten late. Switching gears can be a struggle, even when we know the rule. A warning and a clear next step may make the change more smooth.
Before we stress, let's assess
Before we stress, let's assess. Transitions away from preferred activities often need preparation.
Step 1. Tonight’s reset
STOP: pause.
BREATHE: slow it down.
SAY WHAT THEY NEED: "Five more minutes, then it's time to stop."
Step 2. I DO → WE DO → YOU DO
I DO: model it.
WE DO: practice together.
YOU DO: try with support.
Step 3. One small action
Try a visual timer and a consistent next activity.
Tomorrow, we can practice again. Spot the clue. Know what to do. We made it through the day.
