Day 19 — The Siblings Kept Arguing
To every tired parent and caregiver: there's room for compassion tonight.
A kind word for tonight
One wanted the blue marker; one wanted it too. A little disagreement became a whole to-do. I tried to find the winner, but the shouting wouldn't cease. They need help with taking turns and practicing some peace.
Before we stress, let's assess
Before we stress, let's assess. Skills such as waiting and requesting a turn need direct modeling.
Step 1. Tonight’s reset
STOP: pause.
BREATHE: slow it down.
SAY WHAT THEY NEED: "Ask, 'Can I use it when you're done?'"
Step 2. I DO → WE DO → YOU DO
I DO: model it.
WE DO: practice together.
YOU DO: try with support.
Step 3. One small action
Practice taking turns when both children are calm.
Tomorrow, we can practice again. Spot the clue. Know what to do. We made it through the day.
