Day 21 — When They Talk Back
It's almost bedtime, and some of us are still carrying the whole day on our shoulders.
A kind word for tonight
Those words came out so sharply that they landed like a stone. I wanted to answer harder, but that tone would set the tone. Respect can still be taught without a yelling match tonight. I'll name the limit clearly and keep the conversation right.
Before we stress, let's assess
Before we stress, let's assess. A child can feel upset and still be guided toward respectful communication.
Step 1. Tonight’s reset
STOP: pause.
BREATHE: slow it down.
SAY WHAT THEY NEED: "You can be angry; we still speak with respect."
Step 2. I DO → WE DO → YOU DO
I DO: model it.
WE DO: practice together.
YOU DO: try with support.
Step 3. One small action
Rehearse one respectful disagreement phrase.
Tomorrow, we can practice again. Spot the clue. Know what to do. We made it through the day.
