Caregiver Motivation
I’m Worried About My Child’s Future
You ever look at your child and your mind jumps ten years ahead?
Step 1. What's happening
Caregiver…
You ever look at your child and your mind jumps ten years ahead?
“Will they be okay?”
“Will they make friends?”
“Will they be able to work?”
“Will people understand them?”
“Who will help them when I’m not there?”
And suddenly you’re carrying problems that haven’t even happened yet.
Step 2. Behavior clues
Philippians 4:6 KJV says:
“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”
You don’t have to solve your child’s whole future this morning.
Step 3. Watch before you react
- COME BACK
Ask:
“What does my child need from me TODAY?”
Not five years from now.
Today.
- CONTROL WHAT YOU CAN
Maybe today means sending the email.
Teaching one skill.
Making one appointment.
Or simply listening.
- RELEASE THE REST
Pray about what you cannot control.
Then bring your attention back to what you can.
Step 4. STOP → BREATHE → SAY WHAT THEY NEED
STOP — Pause before you react.
BREATHE — One slow breath. Count to five.
SAY — “I’m going to take a minute, then try again.”
Step 5. I DO → WE DO → YOU DO
- I Do — Show it first: model “Come Back” out loud so your family can see it.
- We Do — Practice “Control What You Can” together in a calm moment.
- You Do — Try “Release The Rest” on your own today. Notice what changes.
Step 6. Try this tonight
- Today, practice: Come Back.
- Today, practice: Control What You Can.
- Today, practice: Release The Rest.
Caregiver…
Don’t make your heart live ten years ahead of your feet.
Your child doesn’t need you to solve their entire future today.
They need you here.
Now.
One skill.
One support.
One day at a time.
💜 Before we stress, let’s assess.
Spot the clue. Know what to do.
