Caregiver Motivation

When You Feel Like Nothing Is Working

You changed the routine. You tried talking softer. And somehow you're still dealing with the same behavior. Here is why that does not mean you are failing.

Step 1. What's happening

Caregiver…

Have you ever sat there thinking, “Lord, I'm trying everything. Why is NOTHING working?”

You changed the routine. You tried talking softer.

You called the school. You tried another strategy.

And somehow you're still dealing with the same behavior.

That can make you tired. Not just body tired.

I mean that deep kind of tired where you wonder if anything you're doing even matters.

Step 2. Behavior clues

But Galatians 6:9 KJV says:

“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”

Catch that: In due season.

It doesn't say everything changes overnight.

Sometimes you're planting today what you won't see growing right away.

Step 3. Watch before you react

Ask: “What happened right before the behavior?”

  • Were they tired?
  • Hungry?
  • Overwhelmed?
  • Was the room loud?
  • Was the direction too long?
  • Was the transition too fast?

Step 4. STOP → BREATHE → SAY WHAT THEY NEED

  1. STOP — Don't judge your whole journey by one hard day.
  2. SPOT — Ask: “What happened right before the behavior?”
  3. SWITCH — Change one thing. Not ten.

Maybe fewer words. Maybe more warning.

Maybe a break before homework. Maybe five quiet minutes after school.

Then watch what happens.

Step 5. I DO → WE DO → YOU DO

  1. I Do — Model a pause. Say, “One hard day is not the whole story.”
  1. We Do — Practice a quiet pause together when they are ready.
  1. You Do — Let them try the pause on their own, with you nearby.

Step 6. Try this tonight

Caregiver, you don't need another reason to blame yourself. You need better clues.

And remember what Galatians said: Don't get weary doing good.

The seed may be growing before the progress starts showing.

Keep learning. Keep adjusting. Keep loving.

  1. When today's plan doesn't work, don't say: “I'm failing.”
  1. Say: “I learned something. Now let me adjust.”
  1. Note one clue and one small change to try next time.

💜 Before we stress, let's assess.

Spot the clue. Know what to do.
