Caregiver Motivation
People Keep Judging My Parenting
You ever feel people staring when your child is having a hard time?
Step 1. What's happening
Caregiver…
You ever feel people staring when your child is having a hard time?
Maybe you’re in the store.
At school.
At church.
At a family gathering.
Your child gets loud.
They refuse.
They cry.
They move differently.
And suddenly you feel like everybody has an opinion.
Step 2. Behavior clues
1 Samuel 16:7 KJV says:
“For man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.”
People may see the behavior.
But they don’t always see the backstory.
They didn’t see the rough night.
The sensory overload.
The transition.
The anxiety.
The communication struggle.
Step 3. Watch before you react
- STOP PERFORMING
You don’t have to prove you’re a good parent to everybody watching.
- STAY WITH YOUR CHILD
Ask:
“What does my child need right now?”
- KEEP IT SIMPLE
If somebody needs an explanation:
“We’re working through something. We need a little space.”
That’s enough.
Step 4. STOP → BREATHE → SAY WHAT THEY NEED
STOP — Pause before you react.
BREATHE — One slow breath. Count to five.
SAY — “I’m going to take a minute, then try again.”
Step 5. I DO → WE DO → YOU DO
- I Do — Show it first: model “Stop Performing” out loud so your family can see it.
- We Do — Practice “Stay With Your Child” together in a calm moment.
- You Do — Try “Keep It Simple” on your own today. Notice what changes.
Step 6. Try this tonight
- Today, practice: Stop Performing.
- Today, practice: Stay With Your Child.
- Today, practice: Keep It Simple.
Caregiver…
Don’t parent for the audience.
Parent the child standing in front of you.
People see a moment.
God sees the whole story.
💜 Before we stress, let’s assess.
Spot the clue. Know what to do.
