Lesson 5 — My feet want to run

Sometimes my feet get jumpy and want to take off. That's a clue too.

  1. SPOT THE CLUE
  2. STOP
  3. BREATHE
  4. SAY WHAT I NEED

Clue: My feet want to run.

That's my clue! I know what to do!

Stop.
Breathe.
Say what I need.

What do I do?

STOP → BREATHE → SAY WHAT I NEED

  1. 1. STOP

    • Stop my body.
  2. 2. BREATHE

    • Take a slow breath in.
    • Let a slow breath out.
  3. 3. SAY WHAT I NEED

    • “I need a break.”
    • “I need help.”
    • “I need some space.”
    • “I'm getting mad.”

Practice it

Press both feet flat on the floor. Then do the three steps.

For the grown-up

Step 1: Say “Your feet look ready to go.” Step 2: Plant feet together. Step 3: Ask for the need.

I'm learning to spot the clues, so I can know what to do, to regulate and be cool, even when I go to school!

How you use it

  1. Step 1 — Open tonight's kit: Pick the struggle you are in right now. Read the script out loud. Relief in about 10 minutes.
  2. Step 2 — Print the calm cards: Put them on the fridge and in your bag so anyone with your child knows the same 3 steps.
  3. Step 3 — Log what you saw: One line a day on the log page. In a week you can see the pattern behind the behavior.
  4. Step 4 — Hand the school the plan: Print the school summary and the letter. You walk in with facts, not a story.

How this solves your problem: the yelling and the meltdowns keep repeating because no one has named the clue behind them. The Map names the clue, gives you the words for the moment, and turns what happens at home into the documented plan the school will act on.
