Caregiver Motivation
I Feel Like A Bad Parent
You ever get to the end of the day and start replaying everything you did wrong?
Step 1. What's happening
Caregiver…
You ever get to the end of the day and start replaying everything you did wrong?
You yelled.
You got frustrated.
You let them have more screen time because you needed quiet.
Dinner wasn’t what you planned.
The routine fell apart.
And now you’re lying there thinking:
“Maybe I’m just not a good parent.”
Step 2. Behavior clues
But Lamentations 3:22–23 KJV says:
“It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning.”
New every morning.
That means yesterday doesn’t have to follow you into today.
Step 3. Watch before you react
- SEPARATE IT
Don’t say:
“I’m a bad parent.”
Say:
“I had a hard parenting moment.”
Those are not the same thing.
- REPAIR IT
If something needs fixing, fix what you can.
“Mama shouldn’t have yelled. Let me try that again.”
Repair teaches too.
- RELEASE IT
Once you’ve learned from the moment, don’t keep using it to punish yourself.
Step 4. STOP → BREATHE → SAY WHAT THEY NEED
STOP — Pause before you react.
BREATHE — One slow breath. Count to five.
SAY — “I’m going to take a minute, then try again.”
Step 5. I DO → WE DO → YOU DO
- I Do — Show it first: model “Separate It” out loud so your family can see it.
- We Do — Practice “Repair It” together in a calm moment.
- You Do — Try “Release It” on your own today. Notice what changes.
Step 6. Try this tonight
- Today, practice: Separate It.
- Today, practice: Repair It.
- Today, practice: Release It.
Caregiver…
Your child doesn’t need a parent who never makes mistakes.
They need a parent willing to learn, repair, and try again.
Yesterday may have been rough.
But mercy showed up this morning.
And so did you.
💜 Before we stress, let’s assess.
