Caregiver Motivation
I Yelled Again
Caregiver… You ever promised yourself: “Today, I’m not yelling.”
Step 1. What's happening
Caregiver…
You ever promised yourself:
“Today, I’m not yelling.”
Then somebody won’t get dressed.
Somebody can’t find their shoes.
You’ve repeated yourself five times.
And before you know it—
your voice is louder than you wanted it to be.
Then comes the guilt.
“Why did I do that again?”
Step 2. Behavior clues
James 1:19 KJV says:
“Let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.”
Notice it says slow.
Sometimes we need to slow the moment down before our emotions speed it up.
So today—
Step 4. STOP → BREATHE → SAY WHAT THEY NEED
- PAUSE
When you feel your voice rising, stop talking for a few seconds.
You don’t have to answer everything immediately.
- LOWER
Lower your voice instead of trying to overpower theirs.
Sometimes when they get louder, we get louder.
Then nobody is listening.
- REPAIR
If you yell, don’t spend the whole day beating yourself up.
Say:
“I was too loud. Let me try that again.”
That’s teaching too.
Your child gets to see that adults can make mistakes and repair them.
Step 5. I DO → WE DO → YOU DO
- I Do — Show it first: Pause out loud so they can see you do it.
- We Do — Practice Lower together on a calm day.
- You Do — Try Repair on your own today, one small time.
Step 6. Try this tonight
Caregiver…
You don’t have to be perfect to lead.
Slow your words.
Lower your tone.
Try again.
Because sometimes changing the house starts when somebody decides:
“The yelling stops with me.”
💜 Before we stress, let’s assess.
Spot the clue. Know what to do.
