Caregiver Motivation
The Morning Already Started Bad
A rough 7:00 a.m. doesn’t get ownership of the next twelve hours. You don’t need a new day — just a new moment.
Step 1. What's happening
Caregiver…
It’s 7:00 in the morning.
Somebody’s mad.
Somebody can’t find a shoe.
Somebody doesn’t want to get dressed.
You’re running late.
And now you’re thinking:
“The whole day is about to be terrible.”
Step 2. Behavior clues
But Psalm 118:24 KJV says:
“This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”
It says the day.
Not just the perfect morning.
A rough 7:00 a.m. doesn’t get ownership of the next twelve hours.
Step 3. Watch before you react
- STOP
Stop predicting the rest of the day from the first hard moment.
- SOFTEN
Lower your voice.
Use fewer words.
Slow the room down.
- RESTART
Say:
“Okay. That was rough. Let’s start again.”
Step 4. STOP → BREATHE → SAY WHAT THEY NEED
STOP — Stop predicting the whole day from one hard moment.
BREATHE — One slow breath before you speak again.
SAY — “Okay. That was rough. Let’s start again.”
Step 5. I DO → WE DO → YOU DO
- I Do — Say the restart out loud: “That was rough. Let’s start again.” Let them hear the reset.
- We Do — Do one small thing together slowly — shoes, breakfast, one breath.
- You Do — Ask them: “What’s one good thing we can do next?” Let them pick the new moment.
Step 6. Try this tonight
- When the morning goes sideways, say the restart line out loud.
- Lower your voice and use fewer words for the next ten minutes.
- Tonight, notice: did the bad morning become a bad day, or did the reset work?
That’s it.
You don’t need a new day.
Sometimes you just need a new moment.
Caregiver…
A bad morning doesn’t have to become a bad afternoon.
Reset the room.
Reset yourself.
And keep moving.
💜 Before we stress, let’s assess.
Spot the clue. Know what to do.
